I'm excited to be returning to Wildhive Callow Hall in the Peak District for the third time this year as part of their curated winter event season. I'll be running a Winter Botanical Pen Drawing and Watercolour Workshop at this stylish, country retreat on Saturday 7th December. This festive event starts at 10 am with welcome teas and coffees, followed by a two-hour art workshop in the Coach House and then a delicious seasonal light lunch in the Garden Room.
Wildhive Callow Hall is tucked away in 35 acres of picturesque gardens and woodlands, making this country house hotel a beautiful place to create botanical and floral art. Interior designer Isabella Worsley (trained under award-winning interior designer Kit Kemp of Firmdale Hotels) brings the outdoors into the grand house through floral prints, flower art and botanical photography.
My Pen and Watercolour workshop starts with a tour of the hotel's botanical art to inspire participants. Throughout the art session, we work from locally foraged foliage including holly, ivy, berries and seasonal flowers.
I’ll be showing participants different drawing techniques as well as a ‘dry’ watercolour method to help them create their own beautiful A4 artwork.
The workshop is split into two phases - firstly pen drawing and then 'dry' watercolour. I'll show you different pen drawing styles and will help guide you to find a pen technique that suits you.
Once you have done some pen drawing, I'll help you find the best watercolour technique to complement your pen work.
I'll offer individual support and guidance throughout the workshop, to help everyone develop their personal style, understand composition and achieve a more confident approach to art.
We will also be looking at how art and drawing can help relieve stress and anxiety and can improve general well-being and mental health.
Suitable for everyone, from absolute beginners to more experienced artists, who would like to try a new technique and approach to art. All materials provided.
To book your space for Saturday 7th December please email eventscallow@wildhive.uk or please call 01335 and book on this page. This is open to everyone including those wishing to visit for the day, along with hotel guests.
Please get in touch if you’d like know more about my work or are interested in attending this or one of my other Kate Dawes Studio pen drawing and watercolour workshops or would like me to run one for your event or group.
