Kate Dawes at the Courtney Gallery, Ashbourne

The Courtney Gallery – where a number of Kate Dawes Studio fine art giclee prints are exhibited – is situated in the picturesque market town of Ashbourne, Derbyshire. The bustling town, with a great selection of independent shops, sits on the edge of the Peak District & is popular with locals and visitors to the National Park.

Curator Juliana Engstrom

My connection with the Courtney Gallery came about through the curator Juliana Engstrom. She liked my work, the striking boldness and also its ability to fit with contemporary interior design.
“I personally loved the technique you have used in your work, the beautiful simplicity of composure of your subject matter and the vibrant colours of each frame.”

She invited me to enter and exhibit in the Ashbourne Festival that she was curating. The exhibition was held in the beautiful ballroom at the historic town hall in the heart of Ashbourne.

I received positive feedback from the show, and from my exhibiting at the Wirksworth Art & Architecture Festival, and fortunately the Courtney Gallery decided to exhibit my work.

I’m delighted to have my work in this beautiful gallery, owned by Petra and Mark Courtney who are also assisted by the lovely Annabel. The gallery sits on four light filled levels. My work is situated on the ground floor, surrounded by works from talented artists such as Lewis Noble, Catriona Hall and John Connolly.

On show are four framed A2 signed giclee prints: White Waves, White Bloom, Dahlia Waves & Pale Anemone.

These are all framed and mounted in contemporary black frames. These frames complement the darker tones in the art work, and work well alongside most interior decor. There is also a selection of my mounted A2 signed giclee prints available, ranging from florals through to foliage. These are all displayed in white mounts and protected by cellophane, allowing buyers to take them home and frame to fit with their interior design. My work is versatile and sits well in frames of dark grey, metallic and tasteful Farrow & Ball-esque shades of green.

More about the Courtney Gallery

The Courtney Gallery is a busy place with a wide variety of artwork to browse from watercolours through to bronze sculptures. At its hub is a cafe serving up daily lunches as well as coffee and cake, which adds to the bustling ambience and is a great place to stop after viewing all four floors of work.

The gallery also has a comprehensive website, which I’m pleased to feature on along with an array of very talented artists.

Other Galleries, Stockists & Collaborators

I am delighted to also work with other galleries and shops. My work is on show at the petite yet packed Fox and Crow Gallery in the Foxlowe Arts Centre in the pretty market town of Leek. The Foxlowe with the gallery and an adjacent cafe is a bustling place serving excellent coffee and tempting cake, and makes for an interesting trip out.

Also my wall art can be found in the interiors section at the award winning Denstone Hall Farm Shop  – complete with cafe serving delicious local produce.

I’m also delighted to work with the super stylish No 42 interior design shop in Uttoxeter – which has moved to a stunning multi-floored location which is definitely worth a visit.

Often working alongside interior designers and also with private clients, I am used to tweaking my artwork shades & creating new pieces to match interior colour palettes. I’m always delighted to receive commissions to create art to fit within planned or existing design schemes, so please get in touch to find out more.
